OBJECTIVES OF STEM™
In STEM, a discipline has a clean structure. A discipline is goal driven and has a collection of activities to meet the goal. Each of the activity is powered by STEM Core concept to ensure that it is done effectively and not solely dependent on the individual.
Focus on the critical quality factors. The distribution of test effort should be non-uniform. Spend more effort on critical features and attributes and less on the less-critical features.
Objectively prove that test cases are sufficient, to ensure that testing is adequate. The key to effective testing is ensuring that the test cases designed are indeed enough and no more is needed.
Testing is not about just discovering defects, it is about de-risking delivery. It is about assessing risks as early possible in the SDLC to enable us to take appropriate actions to delivery quality on time.
Testing is expensive and exhaustive testing is impossible. Quality need not be assessed only by dynamic examination of behavior (via testing); defects can be detected in a staged manner by a judicious application of early verification and validation later.
