STEMTM represents the "Science and Engineering of Testing" as done by STAG to
ensure that the delivered quality of the software is of the highest standard.
The principles (Science) of testing are embodied in the "Techniques of STEM"
while the application (Engineering) of the techniques is embodied in the "Tools of STEM".
"Process of STEM" helps implementation of "Tools" while the "Metrics of STEM"
clearly highlights the direction ensuring we stay focused.
What this means to you?
- Helps to focus more on the critical quality factors.
- Ensures testing is adequate by objectively proving that test cases are sufficient.
- Detect quality risks as early as possible, by measuring quality objectively during the SDLC.
- Testing is expensive, exhaustive testing is impossible! Hence focus on high-risk items, and use both test and inspection.
