Automation is not just 'record and playback'. It is
about development of flexible and maintainable scripts.
It is about identifying the right scenarios and automating
these to achieve business results. It is about involving
at early development stage ensuring that automation is
interwoven well into the SDLC process. It requires a thorough
knowledge of the tool features, application of these to
designing the scripts and then coding these into well-maintainable
scripts.
Automation is development
Functional test automation is about automating routine
tasks that usually involve manual testing. This involves
writing code using an automation tool to simulate the user inputs,
observe results and assess the correctness of result.
However, as the application evolves, the test scripts often become invalidated and
need to be modified to be accordant with the application. The scripts derived using
a simple 'record-and-playback' scheme is inadequate and difficult to enhance and maintain.
One of the key objectives of good scripting is flexibility and maintainability. This
requires a good architecture for automation and application of good programming principles.
This program is intended to give you a holistic view of automation to enable
‘Effective Automation’. You will understand how to record, playback,
modularize, and interface with external data sources using an industry
standard tool, the IBM Rational Functional Tester (IBM RFT) / Borland SilkTest.
Objectives of the program
This program will help you understand tool specifics and programming aspects
necessary for effective scripting to enable you to become a skilled automation
professional.
At the end of program, you will:
 |
Become proficient in using Functional Test Automation Tool |
 |
Acquire the skill to write efficient, flexible and maintainable scripts
|
 |
Gain the confidence to learn any other automation tool quickly
|
Methodology:
The program is
intensely lab-based. We have a fully
equipped lab with multiple licenses of
IBM RFT in Bangalore and Borland SilkTest in chennai, one for a team of two
participants.
Duration:
Two weekends (Sat and
Sun) between 1000-1600 hrs.
Target Audience:
As a prerequisite participant must have formal training in testing and
preferably with a flair for programming. Those employed as test engineers or
domain specialists in BFSI, Telecom, and Manufacturing etc are eligible.
